Evolution of My Hairstyle from 2007 to 2018

2007 & 2009: Oh boy. We’ve gotta start somewhere, don’t we?

My natural hair color is very dark brown, almost black. I didn’t really do anything with it until senior year in high school. I wanted to reinvent my image from the quiet girl sitting in the corner of the class.

Early on my mom dyed my hair, and then I took a stab at it when I got to college. I’ve always wanted to go blonde, but the people around have always warned me against it. Maybe one day when I have tenure? (^▽^) Ha ha!

Spring 2010 with prom date, Ted. Hair’s curled and sporting bangs.

Winter 2010. I’m not sure why I thought this would be a good idea. Side bang turned full fringe. Never again. The constant trimming was annoying, not to mention the hairstyle makes me look like an acorn.
2011
2011. Back to natural hair color and the weird one curl bang. They always made my forehead so oily!!
2012
2012. Got tired of oily foreheads and grew my bangs out.
2013
2013. Dark brown. This was also when wearing fake glasses were the trend.

Summer 2014. Dyed my hair at home, going lighter…

Winter 2014. I really wanted an ombre, and I got a sort-of ombre.

2015: The year I bleached my hair for the first time, cut my hair super short, got a fade in the back (here’s why). I wanted an even lighter brown– like a grey-ish, cool brown– but the hairstylist either didn’t get what I was going for or she was afraid I’d dislike it if it was too light.

It was a lot of fun to play with different styles, but it was a pain to style it every morning… I had to wear make up to seem more feminine, otherwise I really looked like a man. On the other hand, showers went from 15 minutes to 5.

2015. This was probably the okay-est it looked while it was still short, before hitting the awkward transition stage…

Spring 2016. This hair length is THE WORST. I couldn’t tie it up and it awkwardly flipped in the back. I barely have any photos of me during the transition stage.

Summer 2016. I stopped caring about my hair and how I looked. It was the last stage of grief: acceptance. Slowly growing back to my original length… My roots contrast so much with my ends!
2017
2017. My hair’s finally long. Huzzah! It looked a bit plain, though.
2018
2018. What my hair looks like under the light. I thought about getting pink highlights, but the hairstylist told me caramel’s the realistic thing to go for.

What it looks like under regular indoor lighting… where did all the light ends go!!

And that’s been my 11 year hair journey. Who knows what may happen in the next 11!

  1. Sherry! You blog! Aaaahhhh!! So nice to know fellow bloggers…who still blog (the distinction is important, blogging is a dying artform)

Also, I have been planning on getting an ombre-ish style, or highlights for a while now. Going to pick your brains about this tomorrow \m/

    1. You found me!! I agree with you… and those who are thriving are usually fashion/travel blogs?

Ahhh! I can’t wait to see the results from Something You (or wherever you decide to treat your hair). It’s gonna be glam.
