“Attention all passengers, the time is now 7 am and quiet time for the New Orleans compartment is now over,” a male voice projected from the speakers. “Again, quiet time for New Orleans is now over.”
“What do they mean by ‘quiet time’? Can we all get up, dance and sing now?” His cotton grey T-shirt wrapped warmly around his beer belly. He had a small nest of grey hair on top of his head and whites starting
“Yeah,” the woman sitting in front of me laughed. The man sleeping next to me softly snored.
“Do you know where the snack compartment’s at?”
“You keep going straight.”
“Just keep goin’?” he parroted and then asked her in the same tone, “Can I buy you a coffee?” Oh, they don’t know each other.
“Yeah, I know it’s on the lower level somewhere…” No, it’s on the upper-level. “But I’m not sure where it’s actually located.”
“Okay. Do you want a coffee?”
“Can I buy you a coffee? Would you like to join me?” How the hell did he even see her from back there? Was he looking at passengers one-by-one as he walked by?
“I’m just trying to go to… I’m trying to figure this Uber thing out,” she laughed.
“Uber? What uh— is that a puzzle?”
“It’s a taxi ride type of thing, on mobile.”
“Ohh, Uber. Uber,” he said, like when Uber was first mentioned it had been pronounced differently. ‘Oh, that Uber, why didn’t you say so,’ was what his tone expressed, as if Uber was a common noun. “Well, okay then.” He nodded politely and exited the compartment. By the time I wrote the introduction to this post, the woman hesitantly followed the man’s trail. Maybe they’ll both watch the sunrise together.
“Oh, so this is where it is.” We’re on the very end.
“Yep.” The train isn’t that big, lady. She thanked him and he left the compartment once again. What happened to the romance where they ride towards the sunset on horseback?
In the midst of silence in the train, she repeatedly said “Google” until Siri picked up on the que. She also made a phone call, said she was on her way to work and was “too busy” to do whatever the other person mightve asked. Yeah, I could see why he dropped her back.
